Tender leaves of the Indian coral, mandar, given with honey are also helpful. "Vidanga" and "palash" seeds ground together should be administered in one spoonful doses three times a day. Haridra (Curcuma longa) is also very helpful in case the powder of the rhizome of this plant is given in a dose of one teaspoonful, three times a day, with a cup of milk. This drug is also useful in urticaria and fevers which may be associated with intestinal worms. Raw "areca" nut should be ground on a piece of stone and mixed with the juice of lime. It destroys thread worms more effectively then any other remedies. Seeds of round bitter gourd, which is called "tumbi" in India, in a quantity of 200 mg, taken with buttermilk, will deal with the most intractable case of intestinal worms.

Kerala Pancha Karma


What is Pancha Karma? The term Pancha Karma comprises two words -- pancha, which means five; and karma, which means methods or measures. Pancha Karma plays a very important role in Ayurvedic medicine, both in maintaining good health and avoiding disease.

The five karmas are: Vamana (emesis); Virecana (purgation); Niruha (non-oily enema); Annuvasana (oily enema); and Nasya or Sirovirecana (head evacuation). This procedure or way of treatment has been found very efficient in treating patients who suffer from various mental conditions, or ailments/diseases of the ear, eye, nose and even throat. this procedure has also been found very effective to treat patients who might be struggling to get rid of diseases like diminishing memory, facial palsy, sleeplessness/insomnia.

Kaya Seka: This procedure involves medicated liquid like an oil, which is poured all over the patient's body using the procedure mentioned in the above mentioned dhara karma. Pinda Sweda: It involves a bolus of special paste, made up of coarse rice that is cooked in milk. this special paste is used for fomenting or massaging of patient's body. Pinda sweda helps a lot in relieving tiredness, in addition to various irritating diseases like depression, insomnia and drowsiness. In addition, this procedure promotes appetite, and reduces stiffness or hardness of the joints.
